Weekend of skating

Monday, April 21st, 2008

My past week has been a bit tragic and all so my wife and I needed some good energy to help our spirits. With my love for skateboarding I asked her if she wanted to go to Mayhem @ Muir. Perhaps not romantic but full of good vibes nonetheless. Scott, who is the owner of Muir Surf & Sport put on an event which included skateboarding, music, food and giveaways. It was super nice to see kids just rolling around with absolutely no attitude. Everyone was just happy to skate at whatever their ability was and have fun.

Adam Colton, all around good guy and skater was there spreading the good mojo and helping kids learn new tricks. Impressive indeed. I dig seeing no egos involved and just the pure stoke of skating being spread around.

We got home early since I needed a good nites rest since my Sunday was my first trip out to the Pala Skatepark. The day before was the grand opening so we didn’t know how many people were going to be around on the day after. After a nice drive out there and a bit of skate exploring I saw the skatepark and was stoked on the beautiful setting of the park and mellow skate scene. The only people skating when we got there was some little kids and their parents. Just having peanut butter and jelly sandwiches served up by Mom along with some epic drop-ins. Little kids are just mind blowing these days. I rode every bowl that day and had a blast just working on my carve lines. I’ll be looking forward to skating again there next weekend with the crew and local kids.

Thanks go out to the Pala Indian Tribes who have built such a fun park.

Old School meets new

For those of you getting back into skateboarding there are more ways to skate than what you see the kids doing on the street. Just in the longboarding catagory you have carving, downhill LDP (long distance pumping), what I call SDP and many more. Since I work at Gravity Skateboards I had the good fortune to meet Bruce Logan. For those of you that remember, Bruce has more championships under your his belt then just about any skater. He has gone through hard times and is now clean, sober and fit. In honor of Bruce I put together this fun 30″ Bruce Logan for SDP (short distance pumping). This is a 7 ply maple deck with a Bennett 4.5″ front truck wedged, Tracker RTX 129mm back truck dewedged and Alligator 62mm wheels. It brings me back to the good old days except more modern turning capabilities. Check it out and let me know what you think.
